Excited to start sharing a series of music videos that I had a pleasure to create for a full new album by Dr Trousers - INVISIBILIUM - released on Owlripper recordings, Orlová, Czechia.
This album opens up into a spacious, tense, inventive, sometimes dark and always flowing journey of sound. I’ve made a total of x6 videos accompanying each track of the album and I’ve been obsessing with the dark conceptual side of it.
Each track is named after the Five Rivers of the Greek Underworld - a place for afterlife, ruled by the Greek god Hades.Besides being a land of the dead, it is said there were gloomy meadows, fruit trees and botanical elements as well as five rivers flowing in and out and through the Underworld. The five rivers were Styx, Lethe, Archeron, Phlegethon, and Cocytus. Each of them had a unique function and it’s own characteristics, which is where I’ve drawn my inspirations for creating all six videos.
Even though there are only x5 rivers and x6 videos, here is where I introduce the sixth river - Ōceanus. It is a river that flowed around the earth disc (which was believed to be flat), and it was the main source of which all the rivers drew their streams from. It encircled the whole world and joined the realms of the living and the dead.It also symbolised the eternal flow of time, which is why I visually represented it as a never ending textural black hole, feeding itself back (obviously best place to use the video feedback technique).
